ThermiVa Q & A

What is ThermiVa?

ThermiVa is a nonsurgical, non-hormonal, in-office procedure using radiofrequency heat to tighten skin in your vulvovaginal region. That skin in and around your genitals can become loose and dry as a natural result of aging and childbirth.

Dr. Salom and Dr. Tangir use ThermiVa to treat:

  • Vaginal dryness
  • Postmenopausal dryness
  • Orgasmic dysfunction
  • Mild stress incontinence

How does it work?

Your doctor inserts a small, thin device inside your vagina to heat the deep tissue layers. The heat from the radiofrequency results in:

  • A tightened vagina
  • Increased blood flow
  • Improved collagen production

Those, in turn, increase:

  • Lubrication
  • Sensation
  • Bladder control

Your gynecologist can also run the wand over your exterior labia and clitoris to tighten your skin and improve their appearance.

What happens after the procedure?

After the 30-minute procedure, you can return to your normal physical and sexual activities immediately. The procedure is painless with virtually no side effects. Some women experience temporary worsened bladder control that resolves within a few days.

After your first treatment, you’ll have two more treatments spaced about a month apart. The results last about 2-3 years, so Dr. Salom and Dr. Tangir suggest maintenance treatments once a year.

What are the benefits of ThermiVa over MonaLisa Touch®?

ThermiVa uses radiofrequency to provide the same skin-tightening benefits. Because MonaLisa Touch uses lasers, it can cause discomfort during and after the procedure. MonaLisa Touch also requires 1-2 days of recovery time, whereas ThermiVa requires none.

ThermiVa can also tighten and improve the appearance of your labia, while MonaLisa Touch only treats your vaginal walls. The wand used for the MonaLisa touch is wider in diameter than the device for the ThermiVa, which may be a problem for some women. And while improvements from ThermiVa last 2-3 years, MonaLisa Touch lasts only 40-60 days.

While both procedures fall within a similar price range, ThermiVa provides better results with less discomfort, making it a reliable choice. If you’d like to learn more about ThermiVa, call the center to set up a consultation today.
